The urgent need for a new approach to alcohol treatment

With alcohol-induced deaths at a 10-year high in Australia, and alcohol accounting for 4.5% of the country's total disease burden there is a pressing need for more effective and immediate treatment. As GPs, you're at the front lines, with no MBS items to support extended, multidisciplinary care for alcohol dependent clients - we understand the challenges you face.

We provide a 12-month program of assessment, withdrawal and recovery, delivered fully via virtual care, for individuals struggling with alcohol dependence.  We have supported thousands of clients through this pathway, and our service has been independently evaluated by The University of Sydney as highly adoptable, acceptable and feasible.

Bridging The Gap

We're here to help you provide gold standard care for alcohol dependence, whilst respecting and supporting your role as the core care provider. Our virtual care program offers integrated assessment, medicated withdrawal, and recovery, from the comfort of the client’s home.

Affordable and effective

We offer limited publicly funded spots in Central & Eastern Sydney; Western Queensland; Western New South Wales; and Coordinare - South Eastern New South Wales. Clients with full hospital psychiatric cover* under various private health insurers are also eligible for a fully funded placement.

Otherwise, our service is available privately at an affordable price of $380 per month - a win-win for you and your patients. Our program is suitable for patients aged 18+ with alcohol dependence.  The only absolute exclusion criteria is a history of withdrawal seizures. If you are unsure of whether your client is suitable, please contact us and one of our doctors would be happy to discuss this with you.

*Funded placements are subject to individual eligibility and insurer suitability checks

The science behind Clean Slate Clinic

At Clean Slate Clinic, we combine gold-standard clinical care with modern addiction science and the continuity of real human support. Our model is built from evidence: what consistently helps people change, recover, and stay well.

Motivational Interviewing (MI): Change without pressure

Our clinicians use Motivational Interviewing from your first appointment. MI helps you understand your own reasons for change - without shame, pressure, or judgement. It strengthens motivation by drawing on your values and goals, not external rules.

Why it works: MI improves engagement, reduces drop-out, boosts self-efficacy, and has one of the strongest evidence bases in addiction care.

Expert AOD clinicians who stay with you

Every client works with a dedicated addiction-trained clinician throughout their journey. This level of continuity is rare - and one of the biggest predictors of successful recovery.

Why it works: A consistent therapeutic relationship increases trust, safety, disclosure, adherence, and long-term outcomes.

Craving-reduction pharmacotherapy

Where appropriate, our doctors prescribe evidence-based medications (such as naltrexone or acamprosate) that reduce cravings and support long-term change. These are included within many global clinical guidelines.

Why it works: Medication + psychosocial support is significantly more effective than either alone, and reduces relapse risk.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) -informed tools

Our group work incorporates SMART Recovery methodologies - practical, CBT-informed strategies for managing urges, improving decision-making, and responding more effectively to stress.

Why it works: CBT-based programs are among the most effective psychosocial treatments for alcohol and drug dependence, especially when combined with MI and medication.

Holistic care across the 9 domains of recovery

Addiction is more than persistent use of alcohol or substances; it is impacted by, and impacts, our health, relationships, finances, purpose, creativity, stress, and environment. Our aftercare program supports nine domains of recovery, true whole-person care.

Why it works: Addressing emotional, social, physical, environmental, and purpose-based domains improves recovery durability and reduces relapse.

Daily clinical oversight during detox

During detox week, you receive daily check-ins with your clinician plus oversight from your doctor - matching, and often exceeding, the monitoring standards of many inpatient detox units.

Why it works: Frequent monitoring and tailored medication adjustment leads to safer, more comfortable withdrawal and earlier intervention when needed.
